Bios
Sally Buemi
Sally J. Buemi is currently serving on the North Haven Board of Selectmen. She was first elected to the Board in 2013 and has served on the Board for eight years. Sally is dedicated to keeping the citizens informed, and she always encourages people to participate in their local government.
Sally is a lifelong resident of North Haven who graduated from North Haven High School in 1974, where she earned her varsity letter in softball. She grew up on St. John Street, near the Green, and currently lives on Blossom Drive.
Sally has a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration, both from UCONN, and a law degree from Western New England College.
Sally has been a member of the Connecticut Bar for over 35 years. She is also licensed to practice before the United States District Court, the United States Court of Appeals 2nd Circuit, and the United States Claims Court in Washington, D.C. Sally currently operates her own law practice in North Haven and has been doing so for the past 36 years.
Sally was elected to the North Haven Board of Finance and served for 4
years (1985 - 1989) and she was appointed to the Community Services Commission where she served for about 2 years (1984 - 1985).
Sally was also active in North Haven Parks and Recreation softball programs as a head coach and umpire for the girls' softball league; and, in other leagues, as a player, manager and team sponsor for over 40 years.
Sally was also a volunteer with the North Haven Boy Scouts; and she is a
current member of the Hamden-North Haven League of Women Voters, the Friends of the North Haven Library, the North Haven Mayflower Society, and the North Haven Historical Society.
Sally enjoys reading history books, cooking for friends and family, playing golf, astronomy, watching the Yankees and college football, gardening, and pinochle.
Nupur Garg
Nupur Garg is an Emergency Physician in the Yale system and the VA. She has a dual degree from MIT in Chemical Engineering and Biology and a medical degree from Yale. She did her residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC.
Nupur moved to North Haven in 2019 and lives here with her husband and two young children. She loves hiking, board games, and spending time with friends and family. She has thoroughly enjoyed joining the North Haven community and is excited to contribute however she can.
Michael Hallahan
First elected in 2005, Michael Hallahan is the longest-serving, current member of the North Haven Board of Finance. He has been designated as the Board Secretary for the past 8 years. He also was a previous representative to the Open Space Advisory Committee.
Professionally, Michael became a State Certified Real Estate Appraiser in 1986. Since 1992, he has operated his own appraisal firm, Appraisal Associates of Connecticut.
Michael has always been dedicated to the needs of the local community. He became a member of the Rotary Club of North Haven in 2004, serving a one-year term as its President in 2012. Additionally, he continues his participation on the Democratic Town Committee. Also of note, Michael is a supporter of the North Haven Education Foundation, Peter’s Rock Association, Friends of the North Haven Library, and the UCONN Athletic Fund.
Mr. Hallahan earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from University of Connecticut, and a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership from Quinnipiac University.
Marie Devlin
Marie Devlin has lived in North Haven for the last 15 years and has recently joined the North Haven Democratic Town Committee.
She has a long history working in healthcare for the last 35 years as a registered nurse. She has held numerous positions at Yale New Haven Hospital including ICU nursing, ICU management, staff education. She currently holds a position at the Northeast Medical Group as an educator for physicians regarding Medicare documentation.
Marie received an Associate Degree in Nursing from University of Bridgeport, a Bachelor’s degree with concentrations in Political Science and Philosophy from Albertus Magnus College and multiple nursing certifications.
She lives with her two dogs, Una and Gertie, and spends her leisure time traveling, reading, working on house improvement projects and volunteering for vaccination clinics.
Alden Mead
Alden Mead, an incumbent candidate for the North Haven Police Commission hopes to be elected to an additional four-year term this November. He is a native of Connecticut and has been a resident of North Haven since 1992. He is a combat veteran who served his country with distinction in the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam. Alden’s dad was a career police officer, and, upon his return from Vietnam, Alden also became a police officer, graduating from the Connecticut State Police Academy at the top of his class. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Association of Police Commissioners.
In 1972, Alden took a job in health care, which led to his becoming a faculty member of the Yale Medical School where he worked for more than twenty years, and still holds the part-time faculty position of Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology. During his time at Yale, he has published numerous scientific and medical papers. He also became Co-Director of the Yale Marine Mammal Stranding and Study Center and was appointed by Department of National Marine Fisheries Service to represent the United States as Observer and Guest Scientist to the International Whaling Commission (serving in Australia for a number of months).
Following his full-time work at Yale, Alden joined a large non-profit, non-governmental organization, ORBIS International, as a director of that organization, fighting blindness around the world by traveling, teaching and bringing teams of doctors and engineers to numerous Developing Countries such as, Mongolia, Ethiopia, India, China, El Salvador, Cuba, among many others. He has also been a guest lecturer and visiting scientist at universities nationally, and around the world.
Settling down somewhat, Alden then became CEO of the Eye Center of Southern Connecticut, where, under his watch of approximately ten years, the company more than doubled in size, adding nearly fifty employees, three locations, and more than doubling revenues.
Mead has taught courses at Quinnipiac University in the areas of Critical Thinking, Inquiry, Global Health, and World Poetry. Currently he teaches courses in Global Health and Healthcare Business. At Quinnipiac, he was also a representative to the Faculty Senate, and member of the University Education Committee.
Mead is a member of American Legion Post #76, a life member of the Quinnipiac Trail Association and the Sleeping Giant Association, as well as belonging to the North Haven Historical Society and the Sierra Club. He is a past president and treasurer of the Hamden/North Haven League of Women Voters. He is also a former chairman of the North Haven Democratic Town Committee, and currently Secretary of the Cable Advisory Council of South Central Connecticut and was also appointed by the Governor to the three-member Board of Examiners for Opticians of the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
Alden graduated with a J.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law, a B.S. degree from Charter Oak College, and credits and certificates from Yale School of Organization and Management, Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health, Yale Law School, Northern Illinois University (Vietnamese Language), as well as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. During law school, he also served as an intern in the field of immigration to Bruce Morrison, Congressman (and Chairman of the House Immigration Committee), 3rd United States Congressional District of Connecticut.
Alden has volunteered for the American Red Cross International Services, Asian Community Services of New Haven, IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services), and for Yale New Haven Hospital Travelers Clinic as Interpreter (Vietnamese).
In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, carpentry, hiking with his dog, reading, fishing, and spending time with friends.
Alden Mead is currently a North Haven Police Commissioner.
